Lions school sixes Plate champs - St Benedicts college

JANUARY 2010

Congratulations to Old Bens Cricket Team for winning the Annual Lanka Lions
cricket tournament - Plate trophy 2010.

How did we fare:
We beat Ananda College and lost to Raddoluwa Vidyalaya in the 1st round matches. However we went up to beat the much fancied St. Joseph's in the Quarter final and St. Peter's in the Semi final. The final was with Nalanda College, which the Bens did not have much resistance to win by 4 wickets. The Bens team was captained by experienced Lanka Lions player Old Ben Mithila Rajapakse, who led the team to victory through his splendid leg spinners. Sujeewa Silva, Chamil Nandana and Steve Edward contributed with some splendid bowling while Manju Fernando, Mithila Rajapakse, Chamil Nandana, Virosh Fernando and Steve Edward performed with the bat through out the tournament. With an overall effort by the whole team, we bagged the Plate.
